I built StoryWright because I was angry.
Every worldbuilding tool worth using wanted a monthly fee for something that should just be mine. My characters. My factions. My magic system. Why was I renting access to my own canon?
So I built the thing I wanted: an offline series bible that runs entirely on your device. No account to create. No subscription to cancel. No server holding your unfinished manuscript hostage. Open the file, build your world, close the file — it's still yours tomorrow, no logins required.
StoryWright isn't locked to one genre. Fantasy, sci-fi, horror, thriller — the modules bend to whatever you're building. Characters, factions, magic and tech systems, governments, species, languages, plot structure, writing goals, art briefs — one connected file instead of a folder of scattered documents and a spreadsheet you're afraid to open.
It's also quietly become a favorite with tabletop GMs. Your homebrew setting deserves a bible too.
WHAT'S NEW IN v1.0.15
This update came out of listening to writers actually using the app — not guessing what they'd want.
Appearance settings — Dark or Light mode, adjustable text size. Long worldbuilding sessions should be comfortable, not squinty.
The app now reads your genre and adapts. Write sci-fi, and the Universe module gives you Ships & Vessels and Uniforms & Gear. Write fantasy, and it becomes Vessels & Mounts and Armor & Attire. It just knows.
Weapons got more flexible. Every weapon can now carry a Special Trait — Magical/Enchanted, Tech-Augmented, Artifact-Grade, Cursed, Sentient — because your world doesn't have to choose between a sword and a spell.
Characters can now carry a Life Status tag (Living, Dies In Story, Deceased) and a full Background field, so the details that define who a character is don't get buried in Notes.
Characters link directly to Governments and Societies now, on top of Faction membership — and it all stays synced automatically. No more chasing your own contradictions across a dozen character sheets.
