WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

J. Hawkens was born in Hollywood, Florida, and raised in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado Springs — a city shaped by military culture, aerospace industry, and an expansive western sky that has a way of making even the biggest ideas feel possible. It was an upbringing that planted two seeds early: a respect for service, and a fascination with what lies beyond the horizon.

Fresh out of high school, he did what felt natural — he raised his right hand and stepped into uniform. He never looked back.

A SOLDIER'S STORY

His military career spanned two branches of the United States Armed Forces. He served in the United States Navy during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and later with the United States Air Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom — answering the call across multiple deployments and multiple theaters of war.

Those years shaped everything. The culture of discipline and sacrifice. The weight of decisions made under pressure. The bond between people who depend on each other when the stakes are real. The understanding that duty and humanity are not opposites — they are the same thing, tested under fire.

That experience doesn't leave a person. It becomes the foundation. And for J. Hawkens, it became the bedrock of every story he would eventually write.

LIFE AFTER SERVICE

When the deployments were over, a new chapter began. He built a life grounded in the things that matter most — a loving wife, a son, and a continued commitment to public service. The uniform may have changed, but the mission mindset never did.

He still shows up. Still serves. Still believes that what a person does when no one is watching is the truest measure of character. That belief runs through everything he writes.

In 2020, J. Hawkens sat down and started writing. What began as an idea became a universe. What became a universe became an obsession. Four years later, he hasn't stopped.

Earth Unbound is a planned 20-book military science fiction and space opera series — a decades-long story about humanity pushed to its absolute limit, and the men, women, and beings who refuse to let it break. Book One, Legacy Rising, is complete, developmentally edited, and currently in active query with literary agents. Book Two is already underway.

The series draws on everything he has lived — the tactical realism, the chain of command, the cost of war, and the quiet resilience of people who carry more than anyone outside their world will ever know. It is military fiction with the scope of space opera. It is science fiction with the weight of real human experience behind it.
